ABSTRACT
A new method has been standardized for extraction of polyhydroxy alkanoates from the bacteria, using sodium hypochlorite. This method is simple and quick as compared to the existing methods. Statistical analysis has proved the method to be reliable and reproducible.

Pseudomonas cichorii strain S, isolated by soil enrichment technique, utilized santonin as the sole source of carbon, forming chromatographically destinguishable transformation products. One of the intermediary transformation products was identified as 1,2-dihydro α -santonin.
